About Torbay Sea School

Torbay Sea School is an RYA-recognised Training Centre based in Brixham, on the South Devon coast. They deliver a broad range of RYA courses covering sail, powerboat, personal watercraft, marine radio and first aid — from complete beginners through to Yachtmaster preparation — taught by experienced instructors in and around Torbay's sheltered waters.

Practical sail courses run from Start Yachting and Competent Crew right through to Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore preparation. Powerboat and tender courses cover Levels 1, 2, Intermediate and Advanced, alongside RYA Personal Watercraft Proficiency. Shoreside, their Brixham classroom hosts VHF/SRC marine radio days and RYA First Aid at Sea, taught by qualified medical professionals.

Exeter Airport (EXT) — approximately 24 miles (38 km) from Brixham; around 48 minutes by car. Bristol Airport (BRS) is a larger alternative at approximately 77 miles (123 km), around 2 hours by car. From Exeter Airport, take the bus to Exeter St Davids station, then a GWR train to Paignton, then the number 12 bus to Brixham town centre — total journey approximately 2 hours. Taxi from Exeter Airport to Brixham takes around 50 minutes and costs approximately £55–£75.

Paignton Railway Station is the nearest mainline station, approximately 4 miles from Brixham. Served by Great Western Railway (GWR). From Paignton Station, take the number 12 bus from the adjacent Paignton Bus Station (stand 11) directly to Brixham Town Square — a frequent service running every 10 minutes, journey approximately 18 minutes.

Brixham is reached via the A3022 from Paignton or the A380 from Exeter and the M5 motorway. From the M5, exit at junction 31 (Exeter) and follow the A380 south towards Torquay and Brixham. Brixham has several public car parks near the harbour, including Brixham Quay car park. Parking can be busy in summer; arrive early or use the park-and-ride options in Torbay.

Exeter Airport (EXT) is the closest airport for domestic and some European routes; travellers from further afield typically fly into Bristol (BRS) or London and connect via train.
