About Liverpool John Moores University — Maritime Centre

The LJMU Maritime Centre is one of the United Kingdom’s leading university-based maritime training and research facilities. Based in Liverpool — a city with deep maritime heritage — the centre delivers a range of MCA-approved short courses alongside undergraduate and postgraduate degree pathways, serving professional seafarers and officer cadets alike.

At the heart of the centre is a 360-degree full-mission bridge simulator described as one of the most advanced in Europe, complemented by marine radar and engine room simulators. These facilities underpin the centre’s flagship Bridge Resource Management (BRM) and ship handling programmes, which are tailored to deck officers, pilots and masters seeking to develop their command and resource management competencies.

Beyond simulator training, the centre offers CPD programmes in maritime cyber security and maritime law and business management, reflecting the profession’s evolving regulatory and commercial landscape. The centre holds MCA approval for its BRM and simulator courses and operates under the Maritime and Navigation Training Board (MNTB) framework.
