The ENG1 medical certificate is a statutory requirement for all commercial seafarers working on vessels of 200 GT or more, or on vessels carrying more than 12 passengers. The examination assesses physical and mental fitness to serve at sea, including checks on vision, colour vision, hearing, cardiovascular health, and general medical history.
Situated on Newcastle's Quayside waterfront, the practice is well-placed for seafarers travelling from across the North East region. Contact the practice directly to confirm appointment availability and current fees before attending.
The ENG1 seafarer medical certificate is required for commercial seafarers under MCA regulations. It confirms fitness to serve at sea and is typically valid for 2 years (or 1 year for seafarers aged 70 or over). The examination covers vision, colour vision, hearing, blood pressure, cardiovascular health, and general physical fitness. An AMES-issued ENG1 is the only certificate accepted by the MCA for UK-flagged vessels and for STCW compliance.
