Course Overview

The QMED – Oiler course trains personnel to operate and maintain marine engineering equipment and systems aboard merchant vessels. It is a USCG-certified program leading to the QMED Oiler credential, required for operating engineers aboard US-flagged ships.

Prerequisites

  • U.S. Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) or valid USCG documentation
  • Completion of Basic Training in Maritime Safety (BST / STCW A-VI/1)
  • One year sea service as oiler or equivalent
  • Pass medical examination (USCG requirements)
