Course Overview

Qualified Member of Engine Department (QMED) Fireman/Oiler/Watertender (FOWT) is a USCG-certified rating for engine-room crew operating and maintaining propulsion and auxiliary machinery on commercial vessels. Covers fire safety and basic engineering operations.

Prerequisites

  • Minimum age 18
  • Valid medical fitness certificate (STCW)
  • Basic mechanical knowledge helpful
  • English language proficiency (STCW minimum)
  • Ability to understand machinery diagrams and technical instructions
