Course Overview

Qualified Member of Engine Department (QMED) Fireman/Oiler/Watertender (FOWT) is a USCG-certified rating for engine-room crew operating and maintaining propulsion and auxiliary machinery on commercial vessels. Covers fire safety and basic engineering operations.

Prerequisites

Minimum age 18
Valid medical fitness certificate (STCW)
Basic mechanical knowledge helpful
English language proficiency (STCW minimum)
Ability to understand machinery diagrams and technical instructions
